Did you know March was Sleep Awareness Month? Me neither! Once I found out I couldn't pass up the opportunity to write about something so important to me...sleep! I am going to share with you my top tips on how to create a calming bedroom, which is the best way you can set yourself up for a good nights sleep.
Follow these easy steps when furnishing your bedroom:
LIGHTING
Incorporate soft lighting through bedside table lamps to create a serene environment. When you enter your bedroom you want to leave behind any stress and create a calm zone that will help your sleep quality.
Having the main brighter lights is great when you are performing a task as you need to see what you are doing, e.g. cooking, cleaning, getting dressed. However, switch to softer lights nearer to bedtime as you start to unwind. Don't use your main bedroom light after 8/9pm as you don't want to send mixed messages to your mind thinking this is the time to be active and alert.
Top tip - you can also buy dimmable light bulbs which are really handy.
COLOURS
Colours are an important factor in interior design as they send signals to your mind and have an effect on your mood and energy. I recommend choosing cool colours for a space where you want to unwind, such as blue or green. Both colours are soothing and tranquil, which is exactly what you want to create. Avoid energetic colours such as red and yellow as they will boost your energy and make you feel active, so save those colours to use in other areas of your home.
COMFORT
Making sure you have good quality bedding will transform your sleep. I was very lucky to be gifted Hampton & Astley's 100% Egyptian cotton sateen bedding, featured in the photos on this post. They are made from a luxurious fabric that is super soft and really feels
like you are sleeping wrapped in silk. They feel beautiful against my skin and make it very hard to get out of bed in the morning!

SMELL
Room sprays containing lavender and jasmine are the right aroma for relaxation and are known to alleviate stress and anxiety which will help induce sleep. I incorporate a couple of sprays of Baby Duft Aromaspray as part of my nighttime routine, which always helps me fall asleep quicker and deeper.
I love helping my clients to create a serene bedroom that they can relax in.
